International academic conference celebrating UNOVIS group centenary

An International academic conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the group UNOVIS is to be held at the Museum of the History of the Vitebsk People’s Art School, Vitebsk from February 12 – 14, 2020 and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, Minsk on February 14, 2020.

In 2020, 100 years will have passed since the foundation of the group UNOVIS in Vitebsk, which was organized by teachers and students of the Vitebsk People’s Art School. It was to become one of the starting points for the innovative art forms of the twentieth century.

The Vitebsk Center of Modern and Contemporary Art with the support of the Directorate of Culture of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the  Department of Culture of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, will convene an international academic conference aimed at discussing the impact of UNOVIS on twentieth century world art culture. Researchers and specialists working in the field of theory and history of the avant-garde are invited to participate in the conference: art historians, artists, representatives of museums and publishing  houses. Languages of the Conference are Belarusian, Russian, English.

Issues for discussion:

  • study of the phenomenon of UNOVIS: its history and activity, the processes of mutual influence of UNOVIS and the world art schools of the first third of the twentieth century;
  • a comparative analysis of formative processes in the latest art trends of the 20th and 21st  centuries;
  • modern artistic practices: theory and innovative models in twenty-first century art;
  • publishing projects: the history and theory of the avant-garde, innovative art schools of the twentieth century, creative portraits.

A presentation of printed materials and literature will be held during the conference.

Application and lecture abstract are accepted by the organizing committee by e-mail artvitebsk1998@gmail.com marked UNOVIS_100 until December 31, 2019. The application must indicate the last name, first name, place of work and position, academic degree, title of the report and contact information: phone number and email address. The organizing committee reserves the right to reject materials that are not relevant to the topic of the conference. After receiving applications, as well as the texts of the reports, a detailed conference program will be sent to all participants.

A registration fee from participants is not charged. Travel to Vitebsk, accommodation and meals are paid by the participants of the conference at their own cost.
